Curriculum

Huddle Up! Cognitive Development and Memory morning gathering time is a fun daily experience for our preschoolers. Each morning new ideas are explored, and daily routines are developed and reinforced, gently transitioning your child into the day’s activities.

Discovery Time! Preschoolers are naturally inquisitive about the world around them. Our Carlton Academy students get an introduction to the exciting world of science, where they learn basic scientific facts in a fun, age-appropriate environment. From dinosaurs and fossils, the lugs and critters, the solar system, and more, children develop skills such as observing, measuring, predicting, classifying and communicating. Discovery Time is a wonderful way to jump-start your child’s interest in the world of science!

Bio Sprouts** | Some of the greatest adventures we can have are right in our own backyards. At Carlton Academy, we bring nature to the playground! Children have an opportunity to plant a garden and learn how things grow. Integrating basic ecological and biological concepts like conservation and recycling reaches our children to be respectful and responsible stewards for the planet.

Explore Your World | Your child lives in a social world and as parents, you want to give them an understanding of their place in the world so they can develop positive self-esteem and feel connected to the environment around them. Our theme-based social studies curriculum incorporates cultural celebrations, community helpers, families and basic history to explain how each person, place and thing has a role in world.

Fit and Fun | Running, jumping, bouncing, catching, throwing, climbing, scooting, riding, sliding–the possibilities for fun and laughter are endless! Our children enjoy physical activities that are designed to be engaging and fun while building strong, flexible, healthy bodies. Imaginative and cooperative play is encouraged at our three new, state-of-the-art ASTM-certified playgrounds, which feature a pirate ship, splash park and more!

Masterpieces | At Carlton Academy, children are introduced to a wide array of musical and artistic activities. Music and art are a wonderful way for children to express themselves, especially as their language skills are developing. Music is incorporated into many learning activities and has been proven to be an effective method of teaching new information, concepts, and skills. Various genres of music are played throughout the day, including classical music during naptime.

Language Expression | Children from infancy through 2 years are introduced to sign language, with a progression in the scope of their vocabulary: older infants and young toddlers will routinely sign words that are fundamental to meeting their needs. These gestures and nonverbal sounds are an introduction to communication for our little ones and a vital part of a baby’s language before learning spoken words. At Carlton’ Academy, children over 2 years are also introduced to a foreign language by the integration of basic Spanish vocabulary. Language is used throughout the day in multiple formats, including spoken instruction, context recognition, music and arts. The vocabulary is developmentally appropriate and geared to align with their present understanding of their world and the context of words that have become familiar to them in English.

Community Awareness and Character Development
Giving children an awareness of the world outside of their home is critical in their growth. Beginning with our 2-year-olds, we develop activities that are designed to instill a life-long commitment to giving back to the community. Whether we’re collecting food for families in
need or gathering clothing and blankets for the Warm Hands, Warm Hearts initiative, Carlton Academy conducts school-wide fundraising for various charitable organizations. Character development and moral values such as honesty, kindness and empathy are integrated throughout activities each day at Carlton Academy. We want children to know that everyone, no matter how big or small, can make a difference.
